Let’s Go Heauxs
I’m a midlife (*grabs chest* ugh) girlie who spends 82% of her time on the couch with her two feline friends, and then does some bizarre shit either of her own free will (or because life be life-ing) the rest of the time. Strap in with me will you? I hope there’s some entertainment but mostly I hope to have a forum where people, namely women, can learn about topics & travel that I’ve experienced, or just things that move me in general. I hope that collectively we can find solace or inspiration to live life a little uncomfortable. I like all the possibilities afforded to us in this timeline would be wasted if we don’t try to live out loud, to travel, to learn, and to have fun.
There’s really nothing I find more empowering or eye-opening than traveling. It’s quite literally a window to the whole rest of the world. I absolutely do not travel nearly as much as I’d like to, nor half as much as so many other “travel bloggers.” I don’t have that much time, I definitely don’t have that much money (still waiting for my parents to tell me I have a multi-million dollar trust fund coming my way), so I don’t take a single experience I’ve had abroad for granted. I just read something on IG, author unknown, that resonated with me:
“Traveling abroad is a privilege. A lot of people are barely making ends meet, so being able to see the world is a luxury. The exposure, perspective, and learning that come from stepping outside your environment aren’t accessible to everyone. If you can do it often, don’t take it for granted, it’s not just a trip. It’s a window into how much there is to understand.”
These days, I try to leave the country 3-4 times a year. When I was in my early 20’s I aimed for 1 international trip every other year. I fully understand how challenging it can be to experience the world, so I spend a lot of time saving, prioritizing where I want to go, and making the most out of every single trip. I’m so lucky that I’ve been able to go on some epic journeys, and hope I get to experience a heck of a lot more. I’ll also say that the way I travel now is so vastly different than how I did it back in the day. I’m just far too old for hostels and camping now!
The point of all this for me is to use travel as a learning opportunity, to provide honest accounts of real adventures designed for real people, not highly curated or specialized bougie ass trips that look great on IG but don’t hold water up close. I’ll throw in some things I’ve learned along the way, and want to hear about all the other funny, scary, mesmerizing, awe-inspiring trips that y’all have experienced too! The more we share, the more we grow, the less hate we have in our hearts for people who are “not like us.”
